Ruby Simmons

Ruby Simmons 8/28/1927-10/1/2013. Ruby Simmons, ""MomMom"" was born in Kings Mountain, NC to the late Mr. and Mrs. Augustus Sellers Kiser. She was a graduate of Tryon High School and Appalachian State Teacher's College where she received a degree in Home Economics. Ruby worked for the N.C. Extension Service in Marion, N.C. as an assistant Home Agent. She later worked as a Docent in Old Salem. Her proudest work was that of wife, mother and grandmother. MomMom cherished the love of family and friends, the beauty of nature and a quiet reverence for everyday miracles. ""Miss Ruby"" could be found most often with a sewing needle in her hand creating something beautiful for those she loved, never expecting anything in return. She was an expert quilter and a member of the N.C. Quilter's Guild for many years. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels for more than 30 consecutive years. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ray Kiser. She is survived by a loving family: husband of 62 years Jerry Simmons, two sisters Louise Seay and Betty Griffith, brother Fred Kiser, son Scott Simmons (Janet), daughters Deborah Simmons and Betsy Fraser (David), grandchildren Rebecca Johnson (Matthew), Justin Brown, Garrison Brown, and Duncan Fraser. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday at New Philadelphia Moravian Church. The family will receive friends following the service. Interment will be in the church graveyard. Memorial donations may be made to New Philadelphia Moravian Church, 4440 Country Club Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27104. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com
