Ruby Doris Cook Pulliam, 97, has passed into the more immediate presence of her Lord and Savior. She was born the second of eight children, to David Robert Cook and Beulah Augusta Ledford Cook. Ruby spent most of her life in Winston Salem and married William Franklin Pulliam Sr. on February 19, 1944. The couple were married for 57 years before Bill's passing in 2001. Together, Rub and Bill Sr. were blessed with a daughter, Dawn Pulliam Sides (Bill), a son, Bill Jr. (Nan), six grandchildren: Tim Burwell (Florence), Scott Burwell (Terri), Noelle Redmon (Chris), Holly Mathis (John), Heather Mash (Bryan), and Brian Sides. The family further expanded to fourteen great grandchildren. Ruby was very active in the Moravian church, she, and husband Bill Sr. were heavily involved in the Moravian Band, served as youth group leaders, and pioneered several missions to help others in the community and were instrumental in acquiring the land and starting up Laurel Ridge Moravian Church Camp. Ruby was a successful, driven woman and served as an example of strong work ethic, fairness, and generosity. She worked for over 25 years as a real estate agent and was ahead of her time in her stand for women's equality. She was gifted in sewing and swimming but would undoubtedly say her greatest accomplishment was her family- for which she loved dearly. A private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family request any memorials be sent to Laurel Ridge Moravian Church Camp, 124 Pendry Drive, Laurel Springs, NC, 28644.
