Ruby Binkley Pope

Mrs. Ruby Elizabeth Binkley Pope of Clemmons passed away Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born on May 7, 1926 in Forsyth County to the late Will Lee and Lena Boger Binkley. Ruby graduated from R. J. Reynolds High School in 1943 and retired as secretary/treasurer from Pope Sand and Gravel. She was a devoted and faithful member of Konnoak Hills Moravian Church and the Emma Spaugh Bible Class. Ruby sang in the choir for many years until her health prohibited it. She loved to cook and bake for family and friends and doted on her grandchildren and new great-grandson. She is preceded in death by her siblings Bill Binkley, Richard Binkley, Glenn Binkley, Stella Weatherman, Louise Parks, Evelyn Spainhour and Doris Binkley. Ruby is survived by her husband Bobby Gray Pope whom she married on November 8, 1947; her children Barry Pope and wife Jeannie of Lexington, Marilyn Bassinger and husband Donnie of Granite Falls, Randy Pope and wife Bonnie of Clemmons, Michael Pope and wife Cathy of Ronda; Grandchildren Brian Pope of Lexington, Lucas Bassinger of Davidson, Lori Bassinger of Huntersville, Bradley Bassinger of Weaverville, Austin Pope of Dobson; Great grandson Alex Pope of Dobson; Sister Sue Hughes of Winston-Salem; Brother Ken Binkley and wife Catherine of Hickory; and many loving nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at Konnoak Hills Moravian Church on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 2:00 PM with Rev. John Rights officiating. Burial will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00-1:30 PM in the fellowship hall at the church.
