Mrs. Ruby Speaks Myers passed away on Wednesday November 9, 2011 at Bermuda Commons Nursing and Rehab after a long illness. She was born March 9, 1930, the seventh child of thirteen, to now deceased parents Elzey and Ada Speaks of Winston Salem, NC. Ruby worked for Western Electric as a material handler where she retired with 35 years of service. She enjoyed most of her retirement years traveling with friends and family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven of her siblings: Willard, Lois Katherine, Ralph, Vera Mae, Dorothy, Elsie Virginia, and Louella. Also, two husbands, Benny Gray Burton and Samuel Prosperity Myers and one stepson John Thomas Myers. Ruby is survived by son, Ronald Gray Burton and wife Melissa; stepson, Samuel Nelson Myers and wife Dayla; five siblings, Jack Speaks, Helen Wynn, Edith Sprinkle, Jean Leonard, and Doris Kiser; four step grandchildren and three great step grandchildren she also loved and cherished as her very own. Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Hayworth Miller Kinderton Chapel in Advance, NC with Dr. Jon E Smith of Liberty Hospice Services officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Liberty Homecare and Hospice Service, 1007 Lexington Ave., Thomasville, NC 27360. The family is deeply thankful to the Nursing staff and CNA's of Bermuda Commons as well as to the staff of Liberty Homecare & Hospice services all of which showed nothing but the utmost love and compassion for Ruby during her stay and final hours.
