Ruby Hartman Lakey

Mrs. Ruby Hartman Lakey, 85, of Clemmons, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at her daughters home in Sandy Ridge, NC. She was born in Forsyth County December 15, 1922 to Bessie Williard Hartman and Elgin Francis Hartman. She was an active member of Salem Baptist Church for 65 years where she taught Sunday school, worked as a department superintendent, worked in the nursery and traveled with the DMA's . Mrs. Lakey was preceded in death by her husband, James Edison Lakey. She is survived by her children, James of Winston-Salem, Michael of Clemmons, Allen and Virginia of Winston-Salem, Barton and Debbie of Winston-Salem, Barbara and Jerry Byerly of Sandy Ridge and David and Sharman of Clemmons. Mrs. Lakey left behind 14 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Her surviving siblings are Donald Hartman, Robert Hartman, John W. Hartman of Clemmons, Lawrence Hartman of Lewisville, Betty Gautier of Pinnacle, Mary Smith of Winston-Salem and Anne Mustin of Clemmons and a multitude of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Sunday at Salem Baptist Church with Dr. Howard Wilburn and Rev. Floyd Boles officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Saturday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Salem Baptist Church, Capital Campaign Fund, 429 S. Broad St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
