Mrs. Ruby Osborne Flynt, 89, of Winston-Salem was taken home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 15, 2009. Born and raised in the mountains of Ashe County, N.C. to Richard Ira and Effie Osborne on September 28, 1919, Mrs. Flynt shined a light on God's green earth that has touched so many. She and her husband of 61 years, Mr. Samuel Ernest Flynt, have proven that there are marriages that are made in heaven. Mrs. Flynt served in the Army as a supply sergeant during WWII. She worked for Hanes Hosiery for several years. In 1960 she quit work and has devoted her life to her family as a full time homemaker. One of 15 children, Mrs. Flynt is survived by one sister, Gay Church of North Wilkesboro. Also surviving are her husband, Samuel; three sons, Sammy, Michael and Tommy Flynt, all of Winston-Salem; two daughters, Becky Whaley and husband Tim Whaley of Mocksville and Debbie Riggins of King; son-in-law, Charles Riggins; six grandchildren, Sammy Flynt, Jr. and wife Carla, Leslie Sykes and husband Eric, Jennifer Whaley, Jessica Whaley, Tamela Childers and husband Jason, Kristen Ibergs and husband Alex; and eight great grandchildren, Austin, Eric Jr., Devin, Isaiah, Bella, Ethan, Makayla and Caydn; numerous nieces and nephews; also other special family and friends, Imogene and Alma Farmer, Lois Wilson, Joe Jablon, Joseph Marchant, and Mr. & Mrs. Ernest Parks. A grandson, Benjy Shane Flynt preceded his grandmother on his journey to be with the Lord. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 19 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Roy Flynt officiating. Mrs. Flynt will be laid to rest in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown with military rites by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. tonight at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
