COLFAX-Rubert Preston Westmoreland, 79, died Monday, April 20, 2009 at Countryside Manor in Stokesdale. He was born October 12, 1929 in Guilford Co. to the late Lindsay P. and Janette Westmoreland. Mr. Westmoreland was a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church and a United States Army veteran. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Clinard his twin brother, Robert and Hubert Westmoreland; two sisters, Maude Hendrix and Hettie McCollum; and a great-grandson, Noah Westmoreland. Surviving are his wife, Dolly Long Westmoreland of the home; a son, Dennis P. Westmoreland of Colfax; a daughter, Edith W. Matthews and husband Pastor Frankie of Lexington; five grandsons, Robbie (Mary), Daniel (fiancé© Nina), Joshua (Katie), Zachary (Mary Beth), and Nicholas; four great-grandchildren, Lucas, Oaklyn, Hannah, and Waylon; four sisters, Opal Jordan, Neva Long, Annie Nuckles and Ruth Holt. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 23, 2009 at Smith Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Chuck Peters and the Rev. Frankie Matthews officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel.
