Mr. Royal Parker ""R.P."" Lancaster, 76, of Lexington, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born March 27, 1936 in Anson County to John Bowden and Octavia Parker Lancaster. Mr. Lancaster started his career as a principal in the Anson County School System. He then taught at Hanes High School, Glenn High School and East Forsyth High School. He coached all sports throughout his career, and was an activity director. He was well loved by his students and highly respected by his co-workers. He was a musician, winning many ribbons at Fiddlers Convention, and taught his children to play instruments and to love music. Mr. Lancaster was instrumental in developing the in-school suspension program for the state of North Carolina. He had a very infectious smile and was loved by everyone that knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Marjy Everette and Leigh Ann Styers; and a grandson, Tyler Styers. Surviving is his loving and devoted wife of 19 years, Joyce Lancaster whom he shared a love of traveling and camping with throughout the U.S.; three sons, Eddie Wilson (Jennifer), John Lancaster (Robin), and Zip Lancaster (Deborah); two daughters, Christy Daniels (Michael) and Suzy Cox (Mike); his grandchildren and great grandchildren; two brothers, Billy and Kenneth Lancaster; and one sister, Donna Tucker. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 15 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with pastor Jeffery D. Purdue officiating.
