Roy Thomas Tucker, 73, passed away unexpectedly at his home from a heart attack on Thursday evening, June 20, 2013. He was born June 18, 1940 in Westfield Township, the son of Thomas Elmer and Drucilla Frances Simmons Tucker. Roy graduated from Pilot Mountain High School in 1958. Following graduation, Roy served in the United States Air Force in Guam and Ethiopia during the Vietnam conflict. He retired from RJR after 34 years of service. Roy married his sweetheart, Nancy Hendrix, and they built their home in Tobaccoville in 1969. They would celebrate 50 years this October 26. Roy was a member of First Baptist Church in King. From a very early age, Roy's interest in ""anything with wheels"" played a major role in his life. He had a special love for the family Pomeranians, Rambo and Cali who already miss him. The family would like to thank God first of all, for this precious man. The outpouring of love and concern from our family, neighbors, and friends has been such a blessing. And to the EMS workers who tried so hard to keep him with us. Roy is with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ who carried him in the bad times. He now has the answer to the questions he asked so many times about heaven. He knew very well what the Bible teaches us but he always wanted to know more. He will be greatly missed. Roy was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marie Frances Tucker Wall; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Whapham; his in-laws, Owen and Evelyn Hendrix and special brother-in-law, Billy Hendrix. Roy is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy; his son, Torrey Thomas, and wife, Wendy Cleary Tucker; two grandchildren, Austin and Kylee Sieck; one sister, Annie Bell Tucker Whapham; a brother-in-law, James Mack Wall; his niece, Tina Wall Compton (Russ) and their daughters, Megan C. Wood (Chris) and Haley Compton; his sisters-in-law by marriage, Carolyn H. Sechrist, and Dorene Hendrix; along with 3 nephews and 3 nieces who knew him fondly as ""Uncle Roy."" A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, June 24 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Ken Evans presiding. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Sunday, June 23 at the funeral home. Memorials in honor of Roy can be made to First Baptist Church of King, Adventure in Faith Building Fund, P.O. Box 481, King, NC 27021. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
