Roy Sparks

Roy Burnette Sparks, 79, passed away May 21, 2018 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Amelia County, Virginia on July 8, 1938 to the late Charlie Robert and Tilda Burnette Sparks. Roy graduated from Hanes High School where he was very active in many high school activities, including football and basketball where he was voted most popular. He graduated from Guilford College and was a member of Lewisville United Methodist Church. Roy worked for 45 years in sales. He worked for Arrow Shirt Co., Beau Brummell Neckwear, Levi & Docker Belts, Isotoner Gloves and numerous men's accessory lines. Roy had a strong work ethic and was very successful in his profession. He loved his job and all the people he called upon. Roy never met a stranger, loved to laugh and enjoyed a good joke. He loved to travel and looked forward to yearly trips with his "brothers" in sales and their wives. He was an avid Carolina Tarheel Basketball fan and enjoyed the game of golf, although he wasn't very good at it. He had the opportunity to represent the Arrow Shirt Co. at the Master's Golf Tournament in Augusta. Roy's most happiest times were spending it with grandchildren, attending ball games, school functions, and even dance recitals. Preceding him in death was a sister, Charlene Sparks Martin. Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Pat Williams Sparks and brother, Ronald O. Sparks. His pride and joy are his two daughters, Leigh Sparks Howard and husband, James of Advance and Traci Sparks Jermyn and husband, Bradley of Winston-Salem; his four beautiful grandchildren, William James Howard, Jordan Leigh Howard, Carson Scott Jermyn, and Quinten Charles Jermyn; nieces and nephews, Lisa M. Cornell, Karen M. Jimerson, and Randy Martin all of Jacksonville, Florida, Kenneth McKeown of Clemmons and Mischa M. Mangum of Cary; and other family members and friends. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, May 25, 2018 at Lewisville United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Ivan Peden officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at a reception in the church fellowship hall following the burial. The family would like to send special thanks to the Cardiac ICU at Forsyth Medical Center and Trinity Elms Rehab Center for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lewisville United Methodist Church, Hanes Middle School, Pinebrook Elementary School, Moore Elementary School, or Forsyth Technical Community College Toyota Auto Program.
