Roy Lee Smith

WINSTON-SALEM-Mr. Roy ""Pete"" Lee Smith, 84, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at his residence. Mr. Smith was born on July 6, 1930 in Forsyth County to James William Smith and Della Stanley Smith. Roy served his country in the United States Air Force and retired after 20 years of service. Following his retirement from the military, Roy went to work at Radar Security Alarms and retired after 29 years of service. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Vila Tuggle Smith and a great-grandson, Infant Callum Bailey. Mr. Smith is survived by three daughters, Patty Salmons (James) of Winston-Salem, Jeanne Broadway of Mocksville, NC and Diana Pritchard (Tony) of Boonevill, NC; son, Kenny Smith (JoAnn) of Advance, NC; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and close friends, Sug and Brenda Driver. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Monday, August 18, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Dees officiating. Burial will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory with full military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home. Roy was known as ""Pop"" by his family and he will be dearly missed by all. The family would like to say a special thanks to Community Home Care & Hospice of Statesville, Jessica Henderson, April Ayers and Dan Swan for the care they provided to Roy during his illness.
