Mr. Roy Harding Phelps, 87, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2009 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born May 9, 1921 in Forsyth County to the late Earl and Nannie Coggins Phelps. Mr. Phelps was a member of Pinedale Christian Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII and retired from Thomasville Furniture Company with 38 years of service. Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Gladys Sink Phelps; three children, Linda P. Miller, Bobby L. Phelps (Luann), and Carol P. Lambeth (Jerry); six grandchildren, Jennifer M. O'Ferrell (Jason), Brittany M. Lambeth, Scott M. Lambeth, Magen R. Lambeth, Ryan L. Phelps, and Neil S. Phelps; two great-grandchildren, Jameson M. O'Ferrell and Jayden D. O'Ferrell; also surviving are three sisters, Helen Frye, Mae Woosley, and Sarah Holder. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Bob McCaskill officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
