Roy Lee Overby

Mr. Roy Lee Overby, age 72 passed from this earth to the arms of God on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 with his family at his bedside. He was born in Stokes County, October 2, 1943 to Roy Claude Overby and Bertha May Dunkley Overby. Roy was a kind, hardworking man who helped anyone, whether it was family, neighbor or a stranger. He and his wife enjoyed camping, fishing or just sitting on the front porch in the late afternoon. Roy operated Coliseum Shell Station for 29 years and then began his landscaping business Green Acres. Roy was well liked by his clients and he would make sure his elderly clients shared the vegetables from his garden every summer. In addition to his parent's Roy was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Overby. Roy is survived by his wife of 28 years, Faye Moore Overby. Three loving sons; Ronald (Tonya) Overby of Tobaccoville, Jerry Overby of Rural Hall and Rodney Elliott of King. Five precious grandchildren; Jessie, Addie, Justin (wife Danielle), Dakota and Savannah. One great-grandson Korbyn. One brother, Bill (Margaret) Overby and a loving sister, Shelby Jean (Richard) Sohle. Several nieces and nephews. Two special ones he always loved, Angie Brendle Overby and Misty Sells Overby. His faithful companion, Rosie. Funeral services for Roy will be conducted Thursday, March 3, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Chapel in Rural Hall by Pastor Roger Baker. The family will receive friends following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to the Forsyth Humane Society, 61 Miller Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
