Mr. Roy Early Long, 91, of Winston-Salem died Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born July 5, 1921 in Yadkin County, the son of the late, John Thomas and Mollie Waller Long. Mr. Long served with the US Army during World War II. Following his military service he worked as a self employed carpenter and craftsman all of his life. His special interests were restoring old trucks and going to car shows. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Hattie Farve Long. Survivors include six children, Roy Long, Jr. and wife, Melanie of Groves, TX, Beverly Hatcher and husband, Wayne of Winston-Salem, Jerry Long and wife, Signora of Sherrills Ford, Sherry Quillin of Mocksville, Kelly Long and wife, Lisa of Winston-Salem and Marsha Bowers of Pfafftown; sixteen grandchildren, Patsy, Ronny, Stephanie, Aaron, Jeremy, Tiffany, Chad, Amy, Bradley, Sabrina, Brent, Chris, Tristan, Danielle, Lauren and Brianne; and fourteen great grandchildren. The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Richard Durham officiating. Entombment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
