Mr. Roy Clayton Harris, 94, of Lexington, passed away Friday, March 9, 2012 at his home. He was born November 18, 1917 in Jonesville, NC to John Arthur Harris and Elizabeth Mathis Harris. Mr. Harris was a charter member and attended Reedy Creek Baptist Church in Lexington until his health declined 2 years ago. He was a self employed floor sander and finisher in the Winston-Salem area for 40 years. He enjoyed working with flowers and going to the Winston-Salem Farmers Market for over 30 years with his wife, who is known as ""The Cake Lady"". He was preceded in death by three sisters, Brady Williams, Eva Whitt and Mayola Atwood and one brother, Gurney Harris. Surviving are his wife Arlene B. Harris with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage on March 2nd; two children, Clayton Harris (Sherri) and Karan Miller (Gary); five grandchildren, Julie and Brandon Harrison, Amy and Joseph Simmons, Ashley and Lewis Thomas, Kelly and Ritchie Owens and Beth Harris; four great grandchildren, Ethan and Andrew Harrison and Madelyn and Lucas Thomas. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Reedy Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Egbert Craven, Jr. and Dr. Ron Baity officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
