Roy Patton Duckett, Sr.

MSgt. Roy P. Duckett, Sr., USAF (Retired) Passed away on February 20, 2016. He was born September 20, 1928 in Spring Creek, NC to Cora and Henry Duckett.

Roy graduated from Spring Creek High School in 1946. Following high school, he followed in his family's tradition of service to their country and entered the United States Air Force. During his career he completed tours of duty in jet aircraft maintenance at Tactical Air Command bases in the U.S., Europe, Viet Nam, and Japan. He retired from the Air Force in 1970 to Asheville and later in Winston-Salem, NC where he continued his career of service working 14 more years with the U.S. Postal Service.

An avid sportsman, Roy loved to hunt and fish and was happiest when stalking Ruffed Grouse in the Smokey Mountains or Rainbow Trout in his home waters of Spring Creek, NC.

Roy is pre-deceased by his parents, three sisters and four brothers. He is survived by his wife Teiko K. Duckett of Winston-Salem, NC; son, Roy Duckett, Jr. and his wife Sally of Rembert, SC and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, February 27, 2016 at the Gap of the Mountain Cemetery in Spring Creek, NC with the Rev. Jimmy Moore officiating.
