Roy Elwood Brewer

WINTSON SALEM-Mr. Roy Elwood Brewer, 86, passed away Sunday, September 6, 2009 at his home. He was born February 19, 1923 in Forsyth Co. to the late Robert Bascum and Flossie Graham Brewer. Roy was a self-employed painter and owner of Roy E.Brewer Painting and Decorating until retirement. He was the kind of man who not only painted your house, but would fix your sink, find someone to lay your carpet, and take you to the airport. He took great pride in his work and instilled that same work ethic in his children. Alzheimer's had taken away his memory, but he was still left with his pleasant personality and always with a ""thank you"". Roy was a member of Konnoak Baptist Church. He married Olene Smith Brewer and in November they would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his two sons, David Lee Brewer and Ronald Elwood Brewer. Surviving are his wife; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jo Ann and David Arrington of Lewisville, Jan and David Kiger of Belews Creek; four grandchildren, Sherry McGuire (David), Crystal Spicer (Paul), Kristina Able, and Amanda Able; three great-grandchildren, Matt McGuire, Alli Spicer, Jaden Wharton, and baby boy Spicer due in January; sister, Luella Everhart, Kernersville; and the best friends ever, Carole Martin, and Tom and Linda Cagle. A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 pm Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at Woodland Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103.
