Roy 'Pete' Bates

Mr. Roy ""Pete"" Bates, 83 of Winston-Salem died Monday, October 24, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born February 1, 1928 in Forsyth County, the son of the late Roy Henry and Lottie Everhart Bates. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Edith White Bates and four sisters. Survivors include one daughter, Sue Farley and husband, Eddie of Kernersville; one granddaughter, Lisa Goode and husband, Joe of Kernersville; two great grandchildren, Tony and Felicia; three sisters, Margaret Willes and Helen Minton of Winston-Salem and Myrtle Hilderbrand of Jacksonville, FL; one brother, Lee Bates of Winston-Salem and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 PM at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
