Mr. Roy ""Jiggs"" Randolph Arrington, age 85, a loving, devoted father, grandfather and friend to many went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Arrington was born in Forsyth County, October 3, 1923 to the late Samuel H. and late Mary Moss Arrington. He was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem, a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Red Ball Express Transportation Corps under General George Patton during World War II. He retired from Pfaffs Inc. where he proudly contributed more than 40 years to the construction of many landmarks, such as the Wachovia Building and Hanes Mall, and he left a significant footprint in glass in Winston-Salem and Greensboro. He was a kind, generous, patriotic man with a fun sense of humor. He loved woodworking, growing gardens, helping out in the kitchen, canning pickles, and making the best caramel corn ever. He enjoyed his muscadine arbor and working on it with his friend Emory Frye. His yard is filled with bluebirds because of all the bluebird houses he made He was a hard working man who could cut glass like butter, had and excellent sense of direction, and most of all loved being with his family and helping his friends and neighbors. In addition to his parents Roy was preceded in death by three sisters, Georgia, Lena, and Emma also three brothers; Paul, Phillip, and Buck. Surviving are his loving wife of 63 years; Mary Crews Arrington of the home. One daughter; Betty C. (Chamroen) Chetty, Two sons; Douglas (Sheila) Arrington and Donald (Cherie) Arrington. Four grandchildren: Samuel, Sarah, Seth, Joshua. One brother; Jack (Lynda) Arrington. Several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon, April 25, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at New Hope United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem by Rev. Dr. Peter Taylor with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Military burial honors will be conducted by the King American Legion Post 290. The family will receive friends following the funeral service in the church fellowship hall.
