WINSTON-SALEM - Mrs. Rosie Virginia Church, 88, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, April 1, 2011, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, surrounded by her loving family. Rosie was born in Forsyth County on January 22, 1923 to the late Silas (Ed) and Nannie May Cook and was of the Baptist Faith. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister and will be missed by all that knew her. Rosie worked most of her life in Nursing Homes where she cared for the elderly. In addition to her parents, Rosie was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Woodrow Wilson Church; a daughter, Wilma Jean Church; two brothers, Wesley Cook and Bill Cook; and a sister, Minnie Cook Crews . Surviving are five daughters, Dossie Price (husband, Hubert) of Carolina Beach, Carolyn Shoemaker (late husband, Billy Ray, Sr.), Katherine Kitty Wall (husband, Raymond) of Greensboro, Wendy Church of Navarre, Florida, Barbara Bobbie Fletcher (husband, Jim) of Tobaccoville; three sons and a step son, Woody Church, Floyd Buster Church (wife, Marlene), Ronnie Church (wife, Kathy) all of Winston-Salem, and Jerry Church (wife, Phyllis) of Germanton; four brothers, two sisters, 23 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren; and six great, great grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Monday, April 4, 2011 at Woodland Baptist Church Rural Hall with Reverend Tim Gammons officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends from 6:00 9:00 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2011, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel and at other times at the home of Carolyn Shoemaker where Rosie lived. Special thanks to her grandson, Oscar Shoemaker, who loved and looked after her for years.
