Winston Salem-Rose Marie Rudolph Purvis, 82, a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2010. She was born February 14, 1928 in New York City to the late Otto and Lucy Rudolph. Rose was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church and the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, George James Purvis; her son, Robert Purvis; one brother, Otto Phillip Rudolph; and a sister, Eleanor. Surviving are five sons, Steven Purvis and wife, Barbara of Utah, Ronald Purvis and wife, Kyung of Greenville, SC, Donald Purvis and wife, Michele of Orlando, FL, Andrew Purvis of Winston Salem, and William Purvis; one daughter, Sarah Layton and husband, Terry of Winston Salem; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00p.m. Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Gospel Light Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Roberson and Rev. Frank Shumate officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
