WINSTON SALEM-Rosa Lee Phillips Leonard, 94, died April 5, 2009 at SalemTowne, the Moravian Retirement Community. She was born September 3, 1914 in Davidson Co. to the late Early and Avah Lee Rominger Phillips. Rosa Lee was a member of Union Cross Moravian Church where she was active in the Women's Fellowship and also taught Sunday school and served for a number of years as a Diener. She retired from Winston Salem Forsyth Co. School System in 1979. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Earlie Leonard; one sister, Stacy Woosley; three brothers, Junior, Clayton, and Vance Phillips. Surviving are one son, Charles Leonard and wife Connie of Kernersville; one daughter, Brenda Denny of King; one sister, Ina Mae Cole of High Point; three grandchildren, Charlene Leonard, Catherine Jenkins, and Meredith Smith; three great-grandchildren, Lillian Boyd, Isabella Smith, Josie Jenkins; and a special niece, Sue Woosley. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at Union Cross Moravian Church with the Rev. Don Griffin and the Rev. Linda Browne officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel.In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Union Cross Moravian Church Building Fund, 4295 High Point Rd., Winston Salem, NC 27107 or Salemtowne Endowment Fund, 1000 Salemtowne Dr., Winston Salem, NC 27106.
