Ronald Cook

Ronald Dean Cook passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, after a lengthy illness and went to his heavenly home.  Ron was born on November 24, 1953, in Winston-Salem, NC where he spent most of his life.  He was preceded in death by his parents, John E. Cook and Martha Harp Cook. He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane Meader Cook; son, Mitchell Cook; daughter, Meghan Cook; two grandchildren, Brandt Willard, and Ella Gwynn Willard; and his dear sister, Karen Vickers.  Ron was a proud graduate of NC State University where he was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity. He also attended Wake Forest Baptist PhD research program. Ron loved to travel which he did for many years.  One of his favorites was ocean cruising which allowed him and his wife to explore many different countries.  Ron was an enthusiast of many interests and hobbies, including horticulture, cars, antiques, aeronautics, equestrian art collecting, culinary, animal science, sports, and history.  However, his greatest love and interest was horses.  He was a champion in saddle-bred show horses winning many high-level awards and first place trophies and ribbons in harness driving. His love of horses was always a significant part of his life. Ron made numerous friends, especially throughout his many years of contract service business with real estate firms in Winston-Salem.  He did volunteer work for the Chamber of Commerce, Forsyth County Humane Society as well as for the Piedmont Opera and the Winston-Salem Symphony.  He and his wife attended most productions of both organizations for years. Ron loved life and fought a hard fight to survive as long as possible.  We especially want to thank Dr. Ravi Kumar Pulari and his caring team at Wake Forest Baptist Oncology Center who did so much to help him during this very difficult past year. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 13, 2022 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel in Winston-Salem with Retired Rev. Gary Elrod officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Union Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery. Online Condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com
