MARSHALL, Romie Glenn passed away Sunday, July 5, 2009 after an extended illness. He was born July 25, 1930, the youngest child of Powell and Sarah Marshall. Romie grew up in Stokes County. He joined the US Air Force where he proudly served his country for four years. He was also a member of the Rural Hall Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Romie was a devoted son and brother and a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his brothers Lester, Ellis and Elmer; his sister, Lelia, his wife and mother of his children, Vernie Cook Marshall and his daughter, Monica Marshall Welborn. He leaves behind his wife, Kay; his son, Tony and wife Rita; his son-in-law Bobby Welborn; three wonderful grandchildren, Sarah, Andy and Brock. Romie also leaves behind a special niece, Peggy Manuel and many other family members and friends, all of which were dear to his heart. A memorial service will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2009 At Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Chapel in Rural Hall with Br. Don Collins officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service celebrating Romie's life. Their will be a private burial at a later date. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Oak Forest Health and Rehabilitation facility for the wonderful care they took of Romie and their compassion for his family.
