Mr. Roger Franklin Thorpe, Sr., 87, of Winston-Salem, passed away Monday, September 17, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born September 29, 1924 to John and Sally Gentry Thorpe. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. Mr. Thorpe was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church. He retired as owner and operator of Roger's Bargain House. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister, and a granddaughter, Noelle Thorpe. Surviving are his loving wife of 68 years, Pauline ""Polly"" C. Thorpe; one daughter, Kathy Thorpe Richey; two sons, Randolph (Susan) Thorpe, and Frank (Charlotte) Thorpe; 5 grandchildren, Becky (Lee) Crowe, Wendi (Mike) Hoover, Lesli (Brent) Flippin, James Wiggins, Nicholas (Heather)Thorpe; 3 great grandchildren, Jeremy Kamtman, Leah Crowe, and Addison Crowe and one brother, Bill Thorpe. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at First Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Timothy Wolfe and Rev. Don Sigmon officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park with military honors provided by the King American Legion. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Flowers will be accepted and memorials may be made to the Home Missions Dept. of First Pentecostal Holiness Church, P.O. Box 5252, Winston-Salem, NC 27113.
