""All is Well"" Roger A. Snyder, 88, went to meet his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 29, 2008. Born to Berl C. and Etta B. Snyder on April 30, 1920, he was a kind, generous and compassionate man of God devoted to church and family. Even to the end he exhibited a quick wit and self-sacrificing concern for others. Roger graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School and UNC Chapel Hill with honors: Phi Beta Kappa and Beta Gamma Sigma. He went into business with his father at the B&O Furniture Company. On August 13, 1941, he married Marie B. Gobble and moved into their new home where they have resided for 67 years. During WWII he was in the infantry in the Army in the European Theatre and served in France, Germany, and Switzerland. Upon return, he resumed the furniture business and maintained ownership until retirement in 1989. Roger was a lifelong active member of Advent Moravian Church serving as Sunday School teacher, choir member for 70 years, band member, Trustee, and active on many committees and boards. Roger had a heart for missions and contributed to many causes including sponsoring children in third world countries. He loved reading, music (Big Band and Gospel), gardening, and rooting for his beloved Tarheels. He also loved travel and enjoyed many trips and cruises. He leaves behind his lifelong partner of 67 years, Marie G. Snyder, children and spouses, Phyllis Piluso (Charles), Loretta Northrop (Joe), Pamela Blanchard (George), Kent Snyder (Marsha), Lisa Booth (John); as well as 8 grandchildren, Donna Hertel (Steve), Ben Bargoil (Wendy), Andy Blanchard, Nathan Blanchard (Jennifer), Jessica Mann (Michael), Erik Snyder, Sam Booth and Max Booth; 3 great grandchildren, Calvin Hertel, Alexander James (AJ) Bargoil and Eve Mann; a sister, Berletta S. Walker(George);and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother; sister, Almeda S. Crotts; son, Barry A. Snyder; and grandson, Justin W. Blanchard. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, October 2 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Services will be held 3:30 p.m. Friday, October 3 at Advent Moravian Church, 1514 West Clemmonsville Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27127 with the Rev. Dan Conrad and the Rev. Roger Kimball officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Good Samaritan Fund, care of Advent Moravian Church. The family would like to express a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at WFU Baptist Medical Center for their kindness and care.
