Roger Merritt

Dale Merritt , 75, of Tobaccoville, NC, passed away peacefully at his home with family surrounding him on February 16th, after bravely battling pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Judy Ijames Merritt. He was the son of the late John Paul Merritt and Wilma Merritt of Rural Hall and the brother of Gail and Stanley Merritt. Dale graduated from North Forsyth High School and Forsyth Technical College. He joined the armed forces and served 4 years in the army. After leaving the Army he met the love of his life, Judy Lynn Ijames, whom he married and had 2 daughters with (Samantha and Teresa). Dale worked for the Westinghouse Corporation at their Tobaccoville plant as a tool and die maker until he retired. During his retirement years he was happiest when sitting out on his front porch visiting with friends and family, especially his grandchildren (Carol-Anne, Anna, Alicia, Alayna, Ainsley, and Liam). The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 22nd, 2022 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall, NC. His funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM in the chapel of the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Trellis Supportive Care of Winston-Salem (formerly known as Hospice) or to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (pancan.org).
