Mr. Roger ""Sonny"" Hamilton Barker, 82, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Barker was born on July 16, 1930 in Guilford County, NC to the late Patrick Henry and Mary Ellen Barker. He was a graduate of Camp Lejune High School. Mr. Barker served his country in the United States Navy and fought in the Korean Conflict. After serving his country, Mr. Barker received a Bachelor's Degree in Business from Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, NC. Roger was a member of Ardmore Baptist Church for 54 years and served as a Deacon, Chairman of the Properties Committee, played on the Ardmore men's softball team, and enjoyed helping serve Wednesday night dinner. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after 30 + years of service. Roger was an avid golfer and enjoyed going on the Ardmore Baptist Church Golf Trip for many years. He was an excellent marksman and always enjoyed his favorite dessert, coconut cake. Roger liked to spend time on the farm in Davie County around his horses. He was married to the love of his life, Nancy, for 62 years. Preceding Mr. Barker in death along with his parents are two brothers, Robert Barker and James Barker and a sister, Marianne Barker Maestas. Surviving Mr. Barker are his wife, Nancy Capps Barker of the home; two daughters, Robyn Marie Barker Jones (David) of Raleigh, NC and Amy Gayle Barker Ring of Farmington, NC; a son-in-law, Johnny L. Ring of Harmony, NC; one son, Roger Paul Barker (Theresa) of Waxhaw, NC; a son-in-law, Mickey E. Jones of Statesville, NC; eight grandchildren, Christopher Michael Dillard, Bryan Adam Jones, Jessyka Caroline Jones, Seth Owen Ring, Noah Paul Arita, Cameron Nicolas Barker, Natalie Grace Arita, and Hanna Morgan Barker; one sister-in-law, Alma Jean Barker of Houston, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Ardmore Baptist Church with the Rev. Ty Talton and Rev. Christa Warise officiating. A private committal service will take place in the Ardmore Baptist Church Columbarium following the service. The family will receive friends following the committal service.
