Roderick Hall

Kernersville - Mr. Roderick Holsworth Hall, 81, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at his home. He was born August 30, 1936 to the late Alvin Frank and Dorothea Cook Hall. Rod was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and a very devoted servant at Kernersville Moravian Church, where he served his church community with joy. He participated in numerous church committees and was actively involved inhis Men's Bible Class and Moravian Church history, especially the preservation of the former slave graveyard. He also served as Trustee and most recently as Elder. As a former history teacher and avid reader, he continued to intensely research the Revolutionary and Civil Wars in which many of his ancestors fought. Rod was concerned about education and could be called "a historian's historian," never tiring to teach his children and grandchildren about an arcane aspect of the country's history. Throughout his life, he considered it his responsibility to be a good steward of Creation and was actively involved in the protection and conservation of the environment, intensely grateful for
the glorious sunsets over his backyard. He loved his country and was an Air Force Veteran, serving in the Air National Guard. He maintained a passion for golf, often shooting lower than his age.

Surviving are; his loving wife, Sandra Pizzino Hall, two daughters, Melanie Hall van Oort and husband, Hans, Leslie Hall Paynter, and husband Bill, four grandchildren, Samuel Roderick Paynter, Maryori van Oort Jonathan van Oort, John Alexander Hall Paynter, and many beloved cousins, family, and friends.

A service will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Kernersville Moravian Church with Rev. John G. Rights officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kernersville Moravian Missions at 540 North Main Street Kernersville, NC 27284 or to the Sierra Club.
