Robert Douglas "Doug" Delong

Robert Douglas DeLong "Doug" passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of September 10, 2020, at the age of 67.  Doug was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on April 10, 1953, to Margaret (Hines) and Howard. At the age of 7, his family, including his sisters, Susan Desjardins (deceased March 5, 2006) and Mary Louise (Sawyer) moved to Montreal, Quebec, where he met the love of his life, Janet Marjory Cole.  Doug graduated with a degree in Business from Concordia University.  Janet and Doug married April 2, 1977, and have two children, Jennifer Giefer and Jason DeLong.  A fast track career brought Doug and his family to Winston-Salem in 1992 where he settled down and built his legacy.  Doug was an advocate and coach for W-S Youth Hockey Association, an avid golfer at Bermuda Run C.C and loved to duck hunt and fish. He was devoted to “Bill’s Friends” and found serenity in impacting their lives. Doug loved and found happiness in watching his grandchildren, Aiden DeLong, Sienna Giefer, Elysse Giefer, and Brian Bolinsky grow up and sitting in his corner at O’Brien’s Deli.  He will be greatly missed but his life continues through his family and friends.

Due to Covid-19, the family will be hosting a drive through memorial on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, from 3-5 pm at Janet’s residence.  In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Doug’s honor to ARCA, 1931 Union Cross Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107.
