Robert (Bob) Mcewan

Mr. Robert “Bob” Charles McEwan, 82, of Advance, NC passed away Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Born November 26, 1938 in Jackson, MS to Charles Warren and Elsie McEwan (nee Hollingsworth), Mr. McEwan (formerly of Athens, GA) was a member of Ardmore Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. Bob, also known in his early years as Charles or Chuck, moved to Canada at age 16 and after high school served in the Royal Canadian Army. Upon completion of his service, Bob continued his education and graduated from the University of Western Ontario. He worked for Family and Children’s Services of Ontario and then The Center for Justice and Community Relations. His heart for kids and his love of football led him to coaching in and, for a time, leading the Ontario Amateur Football Association, building dear friendships that would last the rest of his life. Bob and his family moved to Athens, GA to attend the University of Georgia where he spent most of the next 30+ years learning and teaching. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Donna McEwan (nee Warren), their two sons and their wives, Scott and Andrea Ritchie and Jason and Lee Ritchie, and five wonderful grandchildren, Emma, Ethan, Julia, Warren, and Mary Margaret, each of whom gave him a new spark of joyful life. Due to current health risks and travel restrictions a service celebrating his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that memorial donations be made to Trellis Supportive Care or to the Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made to www.hayworth-miller.com
