KERNERSVILLE – Mr. Robert Paul Blanchfield, 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 12, 2021. He was born June 26, 1941, in Middletown, DE, He was the son of the late Roland and Myrtle Squares Blanchfield. Bob retired from Johnson Controls Battery Division as an Area Production Manager with 37 years of dedicated services initially in Middletown, DE and culminating with the expansion and opening of the Johnson Controls Battery plant in Winston Salem, NC. After retiring, he continued to work as a consultant for both Johnson Controls Battery and Douglas Battery in Winston Salem. Bob was a very proud PopPop and cherished his opportunity to be able to watch each of his grandchildren grow into adults. Bob enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid deer hunter and continued to hunt throughout his lifetime including last year’s hunting season. As a taxidermist, he proudly displayed his many hunting trophies. He both enjoyed both freshwater and saltwater fishing. Some of his most enjoyable moments were sitting on the back deck at the beach looking at the sound, watching boats, and enjoying sunsets. Bob was an excellent cook with two of his specialties being steaks on Saturday nights and smoked BBQ for our July 4th celebrations.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his son, Robert Paul Blanchfield, Jr. He was also preceded in death by his three sisters; Janice Perry, Mary Dixon, and Sandy Blanchfield, three brothers; Buddy Blanchfield, John “Slim” Blanchfield, and Larry Blanchfield.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Brenda Blanchfield; his son, William “Bill” Blanchfield and his wife Julie, and their son, Coty of Stokesdale, NC ; his step-daughter, Toni Ray and her husband, Brandon and their two daughters, Sami and Peyton of Summerfield, NC; his step-son, Gary Davis, II and his wife, Tina and their three children, Matt, Garrett, and Lauren of Wallburg, NC and his sister, Esther Barthelmeh of Dover, DE.
The family will be holding an informal, intimate gathering to celebrate his life 4:00 PM Saturday, August 21, 2021 at their home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Oxford’s Children’s Home in North Carolina.
