WINSTON-SALEM Robert E. Whittle March 22, 1939 - May 9, 2014 Absent from the body, present with the Lord. Robert E. ""Bob"" Whittle, born in Gainsville, Florida on March 22nd, 1939 to the late Chester E. and Margaret S. Whittle. At an early age his family moved to Orlando, Florida where Bob spent most of his childhood. Bob went to high school at Mercersburg Academy, attended Wake Forest University and graduated from High Point College where he earned a degree in Business Administration. Bob enjoyed the companionship of family and friends at home, at his Badin Lake house and at the family home in Highlands, NC. He was a passionate fan of Wake Forest University football and basketball. He also enjoyed boating, fishing and grilling with friends and family. Bob enjoyed a long sales career, retiring from his own company, Applied Chemical Technologies. He was heavily involved in the Winston-Salem Sail and Power Squadron, where he made many good friends and served as an Executive Officer. Bob is survived by his loving and devoted wife Virginia W. ""Jan"" Whittle of Winston-Salem, son R. Scott Whittle (Sharon) of Charlotte, NC, daughter Susan W. Waller (Butch) of Highlands, NC, and son Spencer S. Whittle (Beth) of Winston-Salem. Bob has four grandchildren: Robert L. Whittle, Margaret S. Whittle, S. Blake Whittle and Benjamin H. Whittle. Bob is also survived by his brothers Chester E. Whittle (Jeanne) of Boone, NC and Christopher T. Whittle (Margaret) of Pawley's Island, SC and brother in law, David H. Wilcox III (Jane) along with three nieces and three nephews. A memorial service will be held Monday May 12th at 2:00pm at First Baptist Church (FBC), 501 W. 5th Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101. A celebration of life will follow the memorial service in the church's Kelly Auditorium. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the FBC TV Ministries (address above), or to the Robert Whittle Memorial Fund to support boating education at the Winston-Salem Sail and Power Squadron.
