Robert Emerson Wheeler

Mr. Robert Emerson Wheeler, 76, of Winston-Salem passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born December 2, 1934 in Washington, DC, the son of the late Emerson Thomas and Elizabeth Handback Wheeler. Mr. Wheeler served with the US Navy during the Korean Conflict and retired from AT&T following 25 years of service. He was a noted plastic airplane modeler throughout the US and Europe. He moved to Winston-Salem in 2003 from Leesburg, VA. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Londell Wheeler of the home; one brother, Allen T. Wheeler and wife, Barbara of San Marcus, TX; two sons, Robert E. Wheeler, Jr. and wife, Colleen of Orange, VA and Patrick T. Wheeler of Manassas, VA; one daughter, Beth Figuracion and husband, Robert of Pfafftown; two step children, Dennis L. Turner of Petersburg, FL and Denise Thompson and husband, Dennis of Mauk, GA; four grandchildren, Savannah Figuracion, Gabriel Figuracion, Faith Figuracion and Emerson Wheeler. The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 10:00 AM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Steve E. Craver officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. A private burial will take place in Salisbury National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Rural Hall Moravian Church, 7939 Broad Street, Rural Hall, NC 27045. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
