Robert Lester Wade

Mr. Robert Lester Wade, 85, of Clemmons has left our presence to the presence of our Heavenly Father on August 6, 2008 from the W.G. ""Bill"" Hefner V.A. Medical Center in Salisbury, NC. His life began on February 15, 1923 in Huntington WVA from a hard-working, faith-based, dedicated family that shaped his character. As a young man he joined the US Army, was stationed in Hawaii and experienced the bombing of Pearl Harbor of WWII. He served proudly for 20 years while furthering his education and his Rank. He retired, honorably as a CWO 2nd Class. From there he was employed with McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft Corp. for 17 years. During and after both of these times he had several small business ventures. His last and final commitment was with the WSFC Parks and Recreation Department for 13 years before declining health forced him to stop. His vast love and devotion as a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, to God, his family and friends are cherished memories. His laughter and wit, his love of traveling, politics, sports, reading, music and fondness of good food complimented his essence. He will be truly missed by all. For all the medical professionals and personnel involved in the treatment and care of his health conditions for his aging body, we thank all of you very much. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry G. and Fannie M. Wade; a daughter, Diana Wade; a half brother, Harry G. Wade, Jr. and half sisters, Helen Copen and Irene Harbour of Huntington, WVA; a brother, John Wade of Huntington WVA, and a sister, Eva Hagaman of Naples FL. He is survived by his gracious loving wife of 63 years, Mary E. Wade, 82 years old, of Clemmons, NC, and 2 sisters, Mary E. Griffith of Huntington, WVA and Pauline Sardis of Cincinnati, OH. He is also survived by daughters, Mary Davis of Clemmons, Irene Miller of Texas, Donna Jones of CA, and Deborah Dykeman of Fl; 1 son, Robert Wade II of Clemmons; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, 13 nieces and nephews and their children. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, August 10, 2008 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with a graveside service to follow on Monday at 12:00 PM at Salisbury National Cemetery. The Rev. Joe Heck will officiate. The family will receive friends following the funeral service on Sunday.
