Mr. Robert William Steagall, known to many as Bill, passed away after many months of illness, Saturday, August 26, 2023, at his home. He was born March 11, 1957, in Forsyth County to Marianne Binkley Steagall and the late Robert Benford Steagall. Bill was a 1975 Graduate of Parkland High School and later attended Davidson County Community College. He loved to play his guitar, hunt, and fish as well as many other outdoor activities. He played for the Moose Lodge for nine years and for the Elks Lodge for three years and with a local musician Rick Allred. He worked for Hanes Lineberry as a Preneed Coordinator and retired after 22 years of service as a financial analyst with Bank of America. Mr. Steagall loved the mountains. He was a big fan of Willie Nelson, Vince Gill, and Johnny Cash and could impersonate them all. Bill loved celebrating holidays and birthdays with his family. He didn’t care when they were celebrated just as long as the family got together. Bill trusted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and set aside every Sunday to listen to his favorite preachers: Dr. David Jerimiah, Dr. Charles Stanley and of course his son-in-law, Pastor Heath Spivey.
Surviving are his loving wife Patricia Steagall; his mother, Marianne Steagall; the light of his life, his daughter, Michelle Spivey and her husband Heath Spivey; one stepson, Dr. Jeff Hockett; six grandchildren, Kennedy and Kensley Spivey, Gavin, Shelby, Payton, and Aubrey Hockett; one great grandson, many special nieces, nephews, and cousins; and very special spiritual mentors, Pastor Floyd Boles, Pastor Ben, Dr. Don Suttles (deceased), and Mr. Phil Haire (deceased).
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Pastor Heath Spivey officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 1:45 PM prior to the service. A burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, make donations to Cardinal Hospice at 4 Cardinal Health Drive Greensboro, NC 27407 or to Augusta Christian Academy 36 Parkway Lane Ste. 114 Fishersville, VA 22939
The family would like to express how grateful Bill was to all his friends and relatives, including hospice care, who assisted his close family during his time of illness.
