Mr. Robert ""Artie"" Columbus Spence, 84, of Winston-Salem, passed away Friday, October 3, 2014 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born October 10, 1929 in Bluefield, West Virginia to Clara Bell Watson Spence and William Richard Spence. Mr. Spence was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Korean Conflict and was a member of Pinedale Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Connie Faye Rudisill Spence; a daughter, Teresa Dawn McFadyen and a grandson, C.J. Spence. Surviving are his wife, Rheta Kosto Spence; three daughters, Sandy Trivette (Chese), Brenda Hooker (Tommy) and Cathy Coley (J.W.); one son, Chris Spence (Nancy); one stepdaughter, Vickie Russell; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Chilton (Donnie), Tommy Hooker, Jr. (Leigh), Scott Hooker (Heather), David Hooker (Hannah), Sarah Coley, Kristy McFadyen and Kendall and Krystall Russell and four great grandchildren, Madison Hooker, Amelia Hooker, Lilly Boger-Hooker and Hank Hooker. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 6, 2014 at Forsyth Memorial Park with Rev. Bill McKenzie officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00-12:30 p.m. Monday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Pallbearers include Tommy Hooker, Jr., Scott Hooker, David Hooker, Donnie Chilton, Ronnie Altizer and Winston Altizer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to the donor's choice.
