Robert Edward Solomon

Mr. Robert Edward Solomon, 82, of Advance passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born August 25, 1931 in Breckenridge, PA to William L. Solomon, Sr. and Ellen Hauck Solomon. Bob was an active member of Hillsdale United Methodist Church. He attended Penn State University on a Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) scholarship. After a commission in the U.S. Marine Corps upon graduation, he served four years of active duty and four years in the Marine Corps Reserve. He was employed with Burlington Industries as an industrial engineer in the hosiery division and with Kurt Salmon Management Consultants as Chief of the hosiery division. In 1973, Bob accepted a position as Chief Executive Officer of the Charleston Hosiery Company in Cleveland, TN. After moving to Advance, Bob worked with Lowe's Home Improvement until retiring after his 80th birthday. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William L. Solomon, Jr. and Ronald Solomon and a sister, Mary Solomon Borland. Surviving is his wife of 57 years, Shirley Williams Solomon; a daughter, Sandra Solomon Wininger and husband David and their children, Morgan and Matthew; a son, Todd W. Solomon and wife Lisa and their children Clay and Raleigh of Chattanooga, TN; and a brother, Richard Solomon and wife Emmy of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and his beloved bichon, Missy. A funeral service will be held 4:00 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2013 at Hillsdale United Methodist Church with Pastor Jerry Webb and Pastor Josh Barnes officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:30 p.m. prior to the service.
