Robert Sherrell

KERNERSVILLE - Robert "Smiley" George Sherrell, 79, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Moses Cone Hospital. Robert was born July 16, 1938 in Dallas, Texas to Arvil Dale and Mary Louise Mabray Sherrell. Smiley was a loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather, who was very dedicated to his family and church as an active member of GracePoint Church. He loved investing time in his granchildren's lives. He retired as a Licensed Aircraft Mechanic. He was a hard worker who was able to fix anything. He never met a stranger, and always told the best stories. Anyone who knew him, knew that he lived up to his nickname "Smiley". In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Kathy Butler, a brother, Joe Sherrell, and two grandsons, Carson Robert, and Grayson Ward Sherrell.
Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Jan Sherrell, who was, as he stated, "She's the best thing that ever happened to me," four sons, Bob Sherrell (Janice), Roger Sherrell, (Donna), Bryan Wright (Nicole), Aaron Wright (Jena), one daughter, Ashley Garner (William), 14 grandchildren, two brothers, Bill Sherrell and Ray Sherrell, and many special nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 25, 2018 at GracePoint Church in Greensboro with Pastor Terry Austin officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Point Church 925 Edgemont Road Greensboro, NC 27406.
