Robert Lee Sanford

Mr. Robert Lee Sanford, 81, of Winston-Salem went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Sanford was born on April 20, 1930 in Rockingham County to Frank and Effie Hudson Sanford. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. Mr. Sanford believed in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, belonging to Cedardale Baptist Church. He will be missed by many and will always be remembered as a loving and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. Mr. Sanford was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mildred Phillips. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Sylvia ""Benny"" Sanford; two sons, David Sanford and wife Norma of Old Fort, and Mark Sanford and wife Karen of King; four grandchildren, Mark Sanford, Jr., Matthew Sanford, Noah Sanford, and Isaac Sanford and wife Mary; a very special nephew, Danny Phillips; three nephews; and one niece. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 pm Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Richard Wallace officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with military rites performed by the American Legion Post #290. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service, at the funeral home. During the hospitalization, he received extra loving care from Dr. Paschold and CNA Diane.
