KERNERSVILLE- Robert Ross Price, Jr., born Dec. 26, 1917, in Abbeville, S.C., Ross grew up in Lowndesville, S.C. attending school in a one-room schoolhouse. A veteran of WW II, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving from 1941-1945; He was assigned to President Roosevelt's Pride Outfit in the Office of Strategic Services, the wartime forerunner of the CIA, and served in London, Holland, and Germany. From 1950-1980 he owned Ross Price Associates specializing in data processing forms and supplies. Before moving to Kernersville in 2002, Ross lived in Charlotte from 1964-2002 and Greensboro from 1950-1964. In 2004, he received the Veteran's Emblem from the Charles M. Setzer Lodge No. 693, of Charlotte, in recognition of his 50 years as a master mason. In 2003, the Charlotte chapter of the AITP recognized him for outstanding and dedicated service. He was a member and deacon of Carmel Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. He enjoyed golf immensely, was an accomplished ballroom dancer and a good bowler. An avid gardener, he always produced a bountiful crop of tomatoes, corn, okra and squash. He loved people, had a fabulous sense of humor and never met a stranger. Upon moving to Kernersville, he became a familiar face at the YMCA there. He made many friends while working out on the machines in his eighties. He is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Elizabeth Bennett of Kernersville and Rosalind Price Raymond and husband William Raymond of Reston, Va.; two grandsons Bradley Price Bennett of New Bern, N.C. and Gregory Lee Bennett of Raleigh, N.C.; and a brother Raymond Price of Sanderson, Fla. He was preceded in death by brothers, John Julius Price and Nick Price; and sisters, Elizabeth Miller Price and Annie Price Grissom. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, 2 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service.
