Robert Lanier Powers

OAK RIDGE - Robert Lanier Powers, 85, died Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at his home. Robert was born on May 20, 1929 in Guilford County to James Samuel Powers Sr. and Ella Lee Peeples Powers. Robert was a devoted employee of Greensboro Coliseum for 32 years. He enjoyed tinkering with bicycles and mowing the yard. The lawn mower is where he did his best thinking!
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife Myrtle Biggs Powers; three brothers, J.S. Powers, Jr., Dewey and Ned Powers.
Surviving are three children, Patricia Powers Jennings, David Lanier Powers (wife, Saundra) and Jeannie Powers Moody (husband, Ronnie); eight grandchildren, Kimberly Brooks (Todd), Andy Jennings (Holly), Tammie Crite (Rodney), Monica Powers (Scott), Amanda Locklear, Jason Moody (Mandy), Jonathan Moody (Amanda) and Melissa Moody; 12 great grandchildren, Riley, Angel, Beatrice, Monica, Junior, Christian, Nathan, Cheveyo, Hastin, Jack , Aubrey and Aiden; a great great granddaughter expected in May; Aleeah, and two brothers, Ted and John Kenneth Powers.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, February 8, 2015 at Westminster Gardens in Greensboro. The family will receive friends from 11:30 - 12:30 Sunday at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel.
