Robert Poore

Mr. Robert Poore, age 90, of King, NC, formerly of Sandlick and Bluefield, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at his residence. Born on January 18, 1921 in Weyanoke, WV, he was the son of the late Felix and Alice Gross Poore. He had been a resident of King for 6 ½ years, was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith and was a coal miner. In addition to his parents, Mr. Poore was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Lusk Poore; three sons, Garney Lusk, Everett Taylor and Michael Poore; daughter, Lorraine Young; two brothers, Eli and Luther Poore; four sisters, Mary Poore, Lonnie Church, Hattie Gillenwater and Ethel Shultz. Mr. Poore was the last surviving sibling of his immediate family. Surviving are six sons, Junior Taylor and wife, Rosie of Sandlick, WV, James Poore and wife, Rose of Fayetteville, NC, Roger Poore and wife, Sue of Princeton, WV, Fairley Poore and wife, Tee of Clinton, MD, Steve Poore and wife, Evelyn of Princeton, WV; five daughters, Lula Jones of Sandlick, WV, Leona Shrewsberry and husband, Arnold of Cottage City, MD, Edna Lynch of Bluewell, WV, Judy Roberts and husband, Larry of Sandlick, WV and Wanda Blevins and husband, Jeff of King, NC; fifty-four grandchildren and seventy-three great-grandchilren. A Funeral Service will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2011 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell, WV with the Rev. Larry Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, WV with grandsons serving as pallbearers. Friends may call on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home.
