PHELPS Mr. Robert Lee Phelps, 85 of Clemmons, died Saturday, August 8, 2009 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born January 8, 1924 in Forsyth County to the late Robert Elmer and Nettie Wrights Phelps. Mr. Phelps was a life long member and Elder of First Christian Church of Clemmons, served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII and had retired as Vice President of Thomasville Furniture Industries after 37 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Woosley Phelps; three sons, Thomas Lee Phelps and wife Mary Catherine of Raleigh, Stephen Robert Phelps and wife Cathy Paul of Clemmons and David Charles Phelps and wife Margaret Brown also of Clemmons; two daughters, Becky Phelps and husband Ed Eysenbach of Winston-Salem and Janet Elizabeth Mays and husband Charles of Greensboro; eleven grandchildren, Ellen Phelps Ranen, Dr. Andrea Phelps, Charlotte Peters, Emily Mays, Robin Mays, Andrew Phelps, Brian Phelps, Caitlin Phelps, Rachel Phelps, Daniel Phelps and Michael Phelps and one sister, Ruth Phelps Bingham and husband Max of Clemmons. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 11th at First Christian Church of Clemmons by Stacy Abernathy, Minister. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, August 10th at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.
