Robert Gene Bob" Martin

Robert Gene ""Bob"" Martin was born August 22, l928 in Crescent City, IL, and died March 2, 2010, in Winston-Salem, NC. During his adult years, when he was asked how he was doing, he always replied, ""I am rejoicing in the Lord."" Bob rejoiced when he married Mary Lou Phelps, and they lived together, surrounded and strengthened by the love of God, for 59 years. God added to their joy by giving them children: Steve (Phyllis) Martin and Sarah Beth (Paul) Kelley; grandchildren, Tabitha Martin, Abigail (Greg) Moyers, Joshua (Shannon) Kelley, Nathanael (Ashley) Kelley, and Elizabeth Kelley; and great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Benjamin, Hannah, and Vivian Kelley. When God called Bob to ministries in southern Indiana, State College, PA, and Manhattan, KS, Bob served with joy. His dream of teaching was fulfilled when he became Professor of Bible and Theology at Johnson Bible College, Knoxville, TN, where he and Mary Lou lived for 28 years. They retired to Clemmons, NC, in 2003 where they became a part of the loving family at First Christian Church of Clemmons. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, March 5, 2010 at First Christian Church of Clemmons by Mr. Stacy Abernathy and Mr. Steve Martin. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to Johnson Bible College or First Christian Church of Clemmons. Bob's family thanks all of the servants at Forsyth Medical Center who cared for Bob during the last 3 weeks of his life----they are, indeed, ""remarkable people/remarkable medicine.""
