WINSTON SALEM- Robert ""Bob"" Ray Mabe, 84, passed away Wednesday, September 03, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born September 7, 1929 in Guilford Co., the youngest of nine children to the late John Martin and Betty Dillon Mabe.
Bob was an active member of Crews United Methodist Church as long as his health permitted. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from the Winston Salem Police department after 30 years of service. Bob was a farmer at heart, he also enjoyed cooking, gardening, and fishing but most of all he loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 5 sisters and 3 brothers.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Edna Jenkins Mabe of the home; daughter, Tonya Mabe; son, Robert ""Bobby"" Mabe and wife, Toni; five grandchildren, Robbie Mabe and wife, Jessica, Candace Hawks and husband, Brian, Nick Brandes and wife, Victoria, Garrett Brandes and wife, Sarah, and Kacie Brandes; four great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Geneva Mabe.
A Graveside Service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Crews United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Gary Camp officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church memorial hall.
