""They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint."" Isaiah 40:31 After a lengthy illness, our husband, father, and grandfather, Robert Lee Leonard, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 24, 2010. Although we feel the heartbreak of no longer being with him, we are rejoicing that he is no longer suffering, but is with our Lord. Robert was close to the Lord and served him in many areas. But he was especially close to Him in the last few months and his faith and trust was a testimony and inspiration to many. He was always smiling and never complained, no matter what his health condition. His devotion and love for his family was clear to all who met him. Robert was born September 23, 1934 to the late Allen and Annie Leonard. Robert was also preceded in death by a sister, Lois Garrison Nelson. He spent most of his life in Davidson County, where he was born. Mr. Leonard worked in the parts department of several major dealerships in and around Winston-Salem, retiring from North Point Chrysler/Jeep. Robert was also owner of Leonard Vinegar Sales Company. He is survived by the love of his life of 57 years, Thelma Lee Leonard; two daughters, Brenda Tulbert (Keith) of Winston-Salem and Donna Dawson (Ken) of Lexington. He is also survived by three special grandchildren, Melissa Finley (Ray) of Lexington, Steve Tulbert of Winston-Salem and Mike Coley of Lexington; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. He will be missed by his very special friends, Puddin, Dale and Pixie. Mr. Leonard was a member of Faith Baptist Church until its closing and was currently a member of Vernon Forest Baptist Church and loved to go whenever he was able to do so. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. James Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home; and any other times at the home of Keith and Brenda Tulbert. Flowers are welcome, or memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, Attn: Development Office, 200 Hospice Lane, Lexington, NC 27292 or American Lung Association, 514 Daniels Street, #109, Raleigh, NC 27605.
