Mr. Robert Douglas Johnston, Jr, 79, of Winston-Salem passed away Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Johnston was born on March 5, 1931 in Grundy County, IL to Robert Douglas and Laura Hornecker Johnston. He was a member of Lutheran Church of the Ephiphany. Mr. Johnston retired from Lucent Technologies with 35 years of service, where he was a member of the Lucent Technology Pioneers. He was also the Director of Transportation for the Vantage and Crosby Golf Tournaments, and a volunteer at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Johnston was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister Betty Baker. He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth H. Johnston of the home; a daughter, Susan Lynn Kraft and husband Chuck of Lewisville; two sons, Steven Johnston and wife Lenore of Hillsborough, NJ, and Philip Johnston of Greensboro; a sister, Shirley Gunn of Dundee, IL; and six grandchildren, Rachael, Devin, Matthew, Christina, Scott, and Chad. A memorial service will be conducted 11:00 am Saturday, September 4, 2010 at the Lutheran Church of the Epiphany with E. Ray Mohrmann and Laura M. Wind officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.
