Robert Harkrader

Robert McLean Harkrader, 81, passed away on May 26, 2022, at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. He was born on June 6, 1940, to Frank Harkrader and Irene Smith Harkrader in Pulaski County, VA. He attended Radford High School and Virginia Tech. Robert worked for Wachovia bank until his retirement. He traveled all over the state with his colleagues during his time with Wachovia. He loved telling everyone his stories about these trips. He and his wife, Susie, spent many years being drivers for the Crosby golf tournament. During his free time, Robert enjoyed playing golf. He also enjoyed playing many card games, especially bridge. After retiring, Robert spent many years being an incredible caregiver to his mother-in-law and his granddaughter. He enjoyed going on many trips with his wife and their friends. He also enjoyed taking weekend trips with his wife and granddaughter to visit his family in Radford, VA. Robert loved his family more than anything and made sure everyone was taken care of, especially his granddaughter Lauren. In his later years, his favorite pastime was playing Farmtown online where he made many new friends. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Sue Robertson Harkrader. They were married for fifty-four amazing years. Robert is survived by his son, Robert A. Harkrader (Kristi); daughter, Mary Beth Harkrader; granddaughter Lauren Harkrader; brother George Harkrader (Teresa); twin sisters Trudy Taylor (Michael) and Judy Williamson (Jim); as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00pm, Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Truett Williams officiating. Entombment will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory mausoleum.
