Mr. Robert Lester ""Bob"" Harkness, 89, passed away Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born in Bradford Co., PA on March 10, 1924 the son of the late Manley and Catherine Gates Harkness. Mr. Harkness was a member of Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem and was a member of Salem Masonic Lodge #289. Bob proudly served our country in WWII as a sergeant in the United States Army. He graduated from Bliss Electrical School which is now the University of Maryland. Mr. Harkness retired from IBM with 35 years of service. After retirement Bob volunteered graciously with Forsyth Medical Center for 27 years as a greeter along with volunteering at Crisis Control Ministries in Winston-Salem. Bob and Marjorie enjoyed many years of traveling with the Holiday Rambler RV Club of which he was a former NC State Club President. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marjorie Jean Krotzer Harkness. Mr. Harkness is survived by a daughter, Jean Morelli and husband Norm of Carolina Shores, NC, a son, Gale Harkness and wife Joyce of Winston-Salem, two grandchildren, Nicole H. Gericke of East Bend and Todd Harkness of Lantana, TX, three step-grandchildren, Stephen Morelli, Celeste Morelli and Cyndi Morelli, four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Marilyn Wheeler of Pleasant Gap, PA and four nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Harkness will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church with Rev. Eric Larsen officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 this evening Monday, September 9, 2013 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. A graveside service will be conducted on Friday, September 13, 2013 at Tioga Point Cemetery in Athens, PA.
